Shri Yantra

Deity:

Goddess Lakshmi (wealth and abundance) and Goddess Lalita (Tripura Sundari – beauty)

Composition:

The Shri Yantra is a sacred instrument that is formed by interlocking nine triangles that surround and radiate out from the central point known as bindu. All the triangles represents the unification of the masculine and feminine and it does so with the help of four isosceles triangles pointing upwards which represent the masculine part or Shiva and four isosceles triangles pointing downwards which represent the female part or Shakti, forming 43 triangles including the central triangle that denote the cosmos or a womb symbolic of creation. All of these triangles together express advaita or non-duality. It represents that Shiva along with Shakti is engaged in the eternal dissolution and recreation of the universe. At the middle of this yantra is the bindu which symbolizes the highest, the invisible and the elusive center from which the entire figure and the cosmos expands. This point represents the point between the physical universe and its unmanifest source. The bindu in the center of the Shri Yantra is the symbolic representation of the cosmic spiritual union of Shiva and Shakti. These triangles are enclosed by two circles of eight petals and sixteen petals and a square that represents a temple with four doors. The outer lines of the frame are broken which represent the figure like a sanctuary that has four openings to the different regions of the universe. There are various deities who reside in the nine layers of the yantra and all of these deities have been described in the Devi Khadagmala Mantra. This yantra is also known by other names like Shri Chakra, Nava Chakra etc., as we can see nine levels in it.
Bhupar – it is a square that has three lines and four portals.
Sankshobhan – it is a lotus consisting of eight petals.
Aasa Paripurak – it is a lotus consisting of sixteen petals.
Saubhagyadayak – it is made up of fourteen small triangles.
Arthasadhak – it is made up of ten small triangles.
Rakshakar – it is made up of ten small triangles.
Rogahar – it is made up of eight small triangles.
Siddhiprada – it is made up of one small triangle
Anandamay – it is made up of one point or bindu.

Shri Yantra embodies countless number of deities and represents the whole of creation. Hence by worshiping the Devi in Shri Chakra one is actually worshiping the highest ultimate force in the mystical form. This yantra is also called Navayoni Chakra because it is composed of nine triangles.
